It was a gorgeous hike, with a large group of us this time. I think "those in the know" who are more familiar with hiking than me knew that it was a hike not to be missed. Don't we look like a happy bunch?! (I am second from the right in the front row.)

I'm beginning to learn that scenery changes as you hike in the mountains. You may think that would be obvious, but sometimes this Kansas girl forgets those details. For example, this is what the red rocks looked like when we started the hike...
... And this is what they looked like with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet.
I really am sorry about the pictures. My digital camera does a good job, but it is no where close to what the view looks like when you are actually there. It is these views that get me through sometimes. There is something indescribable about feeling like you can't do one more switchback (I've learned a new word!), then rounding the corner and seeing a view like this to make you say "Wow. All of that energy was totally worth it."
